Diaspora in Colour · An Afrounity Production
A Pride celebration for African queer people everywhere, from every African country and the diaspora, hosted in Houston, Texas. African fashion, culture, and unapologetic pride, all in one unforgettable night.
Diaspora in Colour brings together African culture and the African queer community for a night of celebration, connection, and visibility, hosted in Houston, Texas, but built for African queer people everywhere, from every African country and the diaspora. It's a space built on pride in where we come from and pride in who we are, no separation between the two.
Expect the sounds, food, and art of the African diaspora alongside community dialogue, local vendors, and performances that center African queer voices. Whether you're part of the community, an ally, or just curious, Diaspora in Colour is built to welcome you.
So many of us have grown up having to choose: African or queer, family or truth, culture or self. Diaspora in Colour exists because that choice shouldn't have to be made. This is one night where every part of who you are is welcome in the same room: your accent, your fabric, your faith, your pride.
Houston was chosen as the host city because it's home to one of the largest and fastest-growing African communities in the United States, a natural meeting point for guests traveling in from across the country, the continent, and beyond. This isn't a local party; it's a homecoming.
We're still locking in the exact 2027 date and venue, this page will be updated the moment those details are confirmed. Join the email list under Get Involved to be the first to know.
Across the African continent and the diaspora, queer identity is still too often met with silence, rejection, or danger. Diaspora in Colour is our answer to that: one night a year where African queer people don't have to explain themselves, hide themselves, or shrink themselves. Come as you are, in African Fit, surrounded by people who understand exactly what it took to get here.
Live performances celebrating African music, dance, and the artistry of African queer performers.
African cuisine and a marketplace featuring Black- and queer-owned vendors and small businesses.
Panels and conversations on identity, culture, and community, led by and for the people they're about.
